Location: The Tigermen Den, 3113 Royal St, New Orleans LA 70117
Alash Ensemble are a trio of master Tuvan throat singers (xöömeizhi) whose style of singing developed among the nomadic herdsmen of Central Asia. In this one-of-a-kind workshop, they will demonstrate traditional Tuvan vocal techniques including sygyt (whistling, flute-like harmonics), khoomei (soft, low-mid drone), and kargyraa (deep, growling tones), showing participants how to manipulate the vocal tract, tongue, and lips to stretch the vocal range and produce multiple pitches at once.
All are welcome; no prior singing experience necessary!
Participation fee: $35 ($10 discount for Community Polyphony members)
Limited seating available.
